Why choose Vitamin B12 + Folate?

This original body-ready folate-B12 blend features vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin and folic acid as folate, with intrinsic factors for enhanced absorption and assimilation. 1 tablet supplies 500mcg of vitamin B12 and 800mcg of folate. These B vitamins work together in many bodily functions. Together they play an important role in the proper synthesis of DNA and therefore, the growth and function of ALL cells in the body.

Which forms of vitamin B12 and folic acid are used, and why?

Vitamin B12 + Folate features the active, body-ready forms of vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin, and folic acid as folate for optimal absorption and efficacy. Vitamin B12 + Folate contains porcine-derived intrinsic factor, a natural glycoprotein that is necessary for absorption of vitamin B12.

What are the synergistic benefits of folate and vitamin B12?

Both folate and vitamin B12 work together to contribute to:

The normal function of the immune system

The normal functioning of the nervous system

Normal homocysteine levels

Normal psychological function

The reduction of tiredness and fatigue

The process of cell division

Why is folic acid crucial in pregnancy?

Did you know that without folic acid, cells do not divide properly? Folic acid is critical to the development of the nervous system, especially of the developing baby during pregnancy. A deficiency of folic acid during pregnancy has been linked to several birth defects, such as spina bifida. This is why all folate supplementation is recommended to all women who are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant.

What is Metafolin® and what are its benefits?

Vitamin B12 + Folate contains Metafolin® a high-quality, body-ready form of naturally identical folate, as L-5-methyl tetrahydrofolate. This form may be useful for those individuals who have difficulty converting folic acid into its active form.

Folate contributes to these important processes:

Maternal tissue growth during pregnancy

Normal amino acid synthesis – forming the “building blocks” of all cells and biological processes

Normal blood formation

How common is a vitamin B12 deficiency, and what are the symptoms?

According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), in the UK the prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency is around 6% in people under 60 years, however, for people aged over 60 years, this rises to around 20%. As we age, our appetites dwindle, so we may consume less food containing vitamin B12 and we are also less able to absorb it effectively.

Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency may include a pale yellow tinge to the skin, mouth ulcers, fatigue, low mood, changes in your cognitive abilities including memory and judgement, and a feeling of pins and needles.

Who is at risk of a vitamin B12 deficiency?

Vitamin B12 absorption can be compromised by the long-term use of certain medications including those that suppress stomach acid such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), H2 receptor blockers, metformin (which is widely used to treat type 2 diabetes), anti-seizure medications, and some cholesterol-lowering drugs. Other at-risk groups include those who have had abdominal or bowel surgery.

Those who follow a vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based diet should also take extra care to ensure their vitamin B12 levels are adequate, as this vitamin is primarily found in meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs.
